Aerodynamic Wind Tunnels Aerodynamic wind tunnels produce a low turbulence, uniform flow field for accurate simulation vehicle testing. Nozzle sizes are large and boundary layer growth on the wind tunnel floor surface is controlled using a suction removal system and/or moving belt ground plane. Aerodynamic forces and moments on test vehicles are measured using internal or external balances. Aeroacoustic Wind Tunnels Aeroacoustic wind tunnels provide uniform wind conditions, similar to pure aerodynamic wind tunnels, with the additional advantage that background noise levels are reduced using extensive acoustic treatment for accurate vehicle wind noise measurements. Emissions Test Facilities Emissions test facilities are used to measure vehicle conformance with stringent federal environmental requirements. Emissions facilities have been optimized to meet both SULEV and ULEV test requirements with associated support systems including temperature control, chassis dynamometers, and adjacent vehicle soak areas. Climatic Wind Tunnels Climatic wind tunnels simulate the wide range of environmental conditions including wind speed, temperature and humidity, experienced by road vehicles. Vehicle driving loads are measured using a chassis dynamometer and altitude, solar loads, hot road, rain and snow can be effectively simulated. | ||
